Wrestling returns home, hosts Army Saturday night

LHU wrestling will host No. 19 Army on Saturday (Jan. 25) night at 7 p.m. in Thomas Fieldhouse.

For the first time since the 2002-03 season, the Lock Haven University wrestling team will meet Army West Point in non-conference dual meet action. The Bald Eagles are set to host the No. 19 Black Knights on Saturday (Jan. 23) at 7 p.m. in Thomas Fieldhouse.
 
Lock Haven is 6-4 overall and coming off a 1-2 week that was capped with a thrilling a 25-17 Mid-American Conference (MAC) Eastern Division win over George Mason on Saturday, January 18. The Bald Eagles won six of 10 bouts and snapped a three-match losing skid.
 
Army's lineup features a number of ranked wrestlers and the team enters Saturday night's dual with a 7-2 overall record. The Black Knights are coming off a 27-9 win over Pennsylvania on January 17. Army has won three straight duals.
 
All-time, Lock Haven is 3-1 vs. Army and the Bald Eagles won the last meeting in 2002-03, 21-16.
 
Saturday's dual marks LHU wrestling's Military Appreciation Night.

LHU NEWS, NOTES & STORYLINES
  • Five Bald Eagles are nationally ranked this week, including 125-pounder Luke Werner who is ranked No. 15 by TrackWrestling. Also ranked by TrackWrestling is DJ Fehlman (No. 32, 133), Kyle Shoop (No. 21, 141), Alex Klucker (No. 33, 157) and Jared Siegrist (No. 32, 174).
  • Luke Werner (125) was named this week's Mid-American Conference Eastern Division Wrestler of the Week. It marks the third time this season where Werner has been named the athlete of the week by the MAC. DJ Fehlman has been named MAC East Athlete of the Week twice as well.
  • In what proved to be a busy stretch last week for the Bald Eagles as they competed in three duals in three days, Luke Werner went a perfect 3-0 for Lock Haven. He opened last week Thursday (Jan. 16) night with a 7-0 win over Sean Carter of Appalachian State before recording a pair of MAC East dual victories. On Friday (Jan. 17), at Old Dominion, Werner won a top-25 showdown as he edged out No. 18 Killian Cardinale, 4-2. Werner, ranked No. 15 at 125, closed the busy stretch with a tech fall over Talha Farooq, 16-1 (3:45) on Saturday (Jan. 18) in Lock Haven's win over George Mason.
  • DJ Fehlman picked up his 100th victory in the Bald Eagles dual-win over Bloomsburg on December 19. Fehlman's 100th win came in style as he majored Josh Mason 13-3 at 133. He became the 22nd member of LHU's 100-win club and the first since Shoop hit 100 wins last season.
  • Jared Siegrist has 88 career wins as he inches closer to career win No.100.
  • Kyle Shoop, a returning All-American and LHU's all-time leader in career tech falls, now has 122 career wins after going 5-2 at the Southern Scuffle and 2-1 last week in dual action. Those 122 wins are the fourth-most in school history. The No. 3 mark is 123 wins.
  • DJ Fehlman is 9-1 in duals for Lock Haven. Jared Siegrist is 8-2 in duals.
  • In 2019-20, the Bald Eagles return four of six NCAA qualifiers from last season. LHU's returning national qualifiers are DJ Fehlman (133), Kyle Shoop (141), Alex Klucker (157) and Corey Hazel (184). Shoop, a returning All-American (7th, 141), is a three-time national qualifier. Fehlman, Klucker and Hazel are all two-time NCAA qualifiers.
 
UP NEXT:
Following Saturday's (Jan. 25) dual with Army, Lock Haven will remain home for a pair of important MAC East duals. LHU will host longtime rival Edinboro on Thursday, February 6 at 7 p.m., before hosting Rider on Friday, February 7 at 7 p.m.
