LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's basketball team (7-4, 4-2 PSAC) looks to bounce back from Friday's loss to No. 11 IUP when they face off against Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East rival Kutztown (6-6, 3-3 PSAC) tonight at Keystone Arena in Kutztown. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
RECAP:
- The Bald Eagles fell to the No. 11 IUP Crimson Hawks 51-64 last Friday night. Lock Haven, who held the lead for the majority of the game, was unable to stave off the Crimson Hawk's offense in the second half, as IUP went on a 13-point run in the fourth quarter to take the lead and eventually the win.
- Ahnera Parker (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) led the Bald Eagles offense against IUP, notching 14 points while going a perfect 4-4 from the free throw stripe. Parker, who has tallied 137 points in nine games this season, leads the team with an average of 15.2 points per game.
- Junior Jaynelle Robinson (Williamsport, Pa./ Williamsport (Monroe CC)) recorded 11 rebounds against the Crimson Hawks, her sixth game recording 10 or more rebounds. Robinson, who has led the PSAC in boards for the majority of the season, now sits atop the conference with 124 rebounds and an 11.3 rebounds per game average, which also ranks among the top 15 in Division II Women's Basketball.
THE SERIES:
- Lock Haven's last matchup with Kutztown came in last year's playoffs, as the top-seeded Golden Bears defeated the Bald Eagles 81-64 in the quarterfinals. Kutztown would go on to the PSAC Championship game, but would fall to then-ranked No. 14 IUP 57-71 in the title game.
- Since 2012, the Bald Eagles and the Golden Bears have met 16 times, with Kutztown holding a 10-6 advantage over that time. Lock Haven's last win over the Golden Bears came on Jan. 6, 2017 in a 64-61 overtime thriller.
SCOUTING KUTZTOWN:
- Kutztown had a difficult start to the season, dropping two exhibition games and their first three regular season games before finally earning their first win on Nov. 19 at Jefferson in Philadelphia. That game marked a turning point for the Golden Bears, as they would go on to win six of their next seven games, but have now dropped their last two games, both to PSAC opponents.
- Junior Rylee Derr leads the Golden Bears with 185 points, averaging 15.4 a game, and ranks second on the team with 62 rebounds (5.2/game). Freshman Casey Remolde holds the top spot with 66 rebounds (5.5/game), and is second on the team in scoring with 138 points (11.5/game). Remolde was named the PSAC East Athlete of the Week for the week of Dec. 16, prior to which she had been named the PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week for three consecutive weeks.
- Tonight's matchup will wrap up a season long seven game homestand for the Golden Bears. In that time, Kutztown has gone 4-2 overall and 2-2 in conference play, winning four straight before dropping their last two games.
UP NEXT: The Bald Eagles return home this Wednesday, Jan. 8 as they take on the Mansfield University Mounties at 5:30 p.m. in Thomas Fieldhouse.
