LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's basketball team (7-5, 4-3 PSAC) returns to Thomas Fieldhouse tonight to face Mansfield University (3-10, 1-6 PSAC) in the Bald Eagles first home game of 2020. Tip-off for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East matchup is set for 5:30 p.m.
RECAP:
- The Bald Eagles were defeated by Kutztown 66-54 in a back-and-forth matchup this past Monday (Jan. 6). Lock Haven held a 30-23 lead at the half, but the Golden Bears offense broke out during the second half to overcome the deficit and edge out the Bald Eagles.
- Jaynelle Robinson (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport (Monroe CC)), who was named the PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week yesterday, led the Bald Eagles offense against the Golden Bears with 14 points while going 4-4 from the free throw line and adding 14 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season. Robinson continues to dominate the conference in boards, leading the PSAC with 138 rebounds and an 11.5 rebounds per game average.
- Three other Bald Eagles recorded in the double digits, as Bink Redman (York, Pa./William Penn), Rileigh Devine (Etters, Pa./Red Land), and Marena Lonardi (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) all tallied ten points. Redman added a season-high 15 rebounds against Kutztown to mark her third double-double of the season.
THE SERIES:
- In last season's matchup, Lock Haven dominated the Mounties 64-27, stifling Mansfield's offense in a shortened contest. The game was called with 2:24 left in the fourth quarter due to power outages in the Mansfield area.
- The Bald Eagles currently hold a three-game win streak over the Mounties, and have won seven of the last eight meetings between the teams. Lock Haven holds a series advantage of 13-3 dating back to the 2010 season, having lost just once against the Mounties at home in that time, a 50-53 thriller on Feb. 7, 2015.
SCOUTING MANSFIELD:
- Mansfield has had a difficult season, going 3-10 overall and 1-6 in conference play, with their first PSAC win having come on Dec. 21 against Clarion. The Mounties other two wins came at the very beginning of the season, as they have now lost nine of their last 10 games.
- Freshman Jasmine Hilton has led the Mounties offense this year, notching 137 points for an average of 10.5 per game. Hilton also leads Mansfield with 77 rebounds (5.9/game).
- Paige Whitfield has also been a major contributor for the Mounties this year, adding 135 points (10.4/game) and shooting .852 from the free throw line, which is the fourth-best mark in the PSAC.
- The Mounties have the worst ranked offense in the PSAC, scoring an average of just 55.0 points per game while allowing an average of 67.3 opponent points. Mansfield currently ranks fourth in the PSAC in three-point field goal percentage defense, which could cause trouble for the Bald Eagles, who have struggled from the arc as of late.
UP NEXT: Lock Haven hits the road once again this weekend as the Bald Eagles head to West Virginia to face Shepherd University on Saturday, Jan. 11. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
