LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's basketball team (12-12, 9-10 PSAC East) defeated Bloomsburg (12-12, 9-11 PSAC East) 68-53 on Wednesday evening in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East matchup.
Lock Haven went up 4-0 early, holding Bloomsburg off the board for nearly four minutes before the Huskies were finally able to sink one to make it 4-2. The Bald Eagles continued to apply pressure, increasing their lead to as much as 13 points as the quarter waned in to the final minutes. A short spurt from the Huskies in the final minute cut away at the deficit, but LHU held on to a strong 19-10 lead after the first.
The Huskies had a hot start to the second, outscoring Lock Haven 8-2 in the first few minutes to make it 21-18 in favor of the Bald Eagles. LHU quickly turned things around, once again pushing their lead to double-digits as they went ahead 29-18 with five minutes left in the half. Although Bloomsburg would begin to chip away at the advantage, a 4-0 stretch from the Bald Eagles at the end of the period reestablished Lock Haven's 11-point lead as they took a 36-25 lead in to the break.
The Bald Eagles continued to surge ahead in the third, going up by as much as 17 points before a 12-2 run from Bloomsburg left LHU ahead 49-42 with one period left to play. The two teams battled it out in the beginning minutes of the fourth, but the Bald Eagles eventually took control, scoring eight consecutive points to build up another double-digit lead. LHU never looked back, soaring to a 68-53 victory.
Bink Redman (York, Pa./William Penn) led the Bald Eagles offense, tying a career-high 19 points while adding nine rebounds and two steals. Redman's nine field goals were also a career best for the junior guard.
Rileigh Devine (Etters, Pa./Red Land) added 15 points while going 5-9 from the field and 3-6 from outside the arc.
Jaynelle Robinson (Williamsport, Pa. /Williamsport (Monroe CC)) was all over the court, recording 13 points and 13 rebounds to mark her sixth double-double this season. Robinson, who has sat atop the PSAC in rebounds all season long, now has 236 rebounds (9.8/game) this season.
Nadia Romanchock (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) chipped in eight points and tied a career-high eight rebounds.
