The Lock Haven University wrestling team will open a three-match homestand Thursday (Feb. 6) night at 7 p.m. when the Bald Eagles host longtime rival Edinboro University in a Mid-American Conference (MAC) Eastern Division dual. It will be the first of two matches this week as Lock Haven will be in action on back-to-back days.
On Friday (Feb. 7), LHU will host Rider at 7 p.m. in MAC East action.
The Bald Eagles are 6-5 overall (2-2 MAC East, 1-2 at home). LHU is coming off a strong showing at the Edinboro Open on February 1.
DJ Fehlman led the way after going 4-0 en route to the 133-pound individual title. For his efforts, Fehlman was named this week's MAC East Wrestler of the Week, marking the third time this season where the nationally-ranked Bald Eagle has earned the honor.
Lock Haven's last dual came on January 25, a 26-9 home loss to nationally-ranked Army.
Edinboro is 9-7 overall and 1-3 in MAC East action. Lock Haven's victory over Edinboro last season snapped a 16-match losing streak to the Fighting Scots. Rider, who received votes in this week's National Wrestling Coaches' Association (NWCA) national poll, is 9-2 overall (4-0 MAC East). Last season, LHU beat Rider for the first time since 2003.
When the NCAA Division I Coaches' Panel Rankings came out on January 24 five Bald Eagles were ranked, including standout 125-pounder
Luke Werner, who was ranked No. 15. Fehlman was listed at No. 28 (133), while returning All-American
Kyle Shoop was ranked No. 20 at 141.
Alex Klucker was ranked No. 29 at 157 and
Jared Siegrist was ranked No. 32 at 174.
Shoop currently has 123 career wins and is just one win away (124) from the tying the No. 2 mark in school history.
