WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Playing on the road for the second consecutive day, the Lock Haven University tennis team turned in back-to-back winning efforts. Today (Friday), the Bald Eagles rolled by Penn College (1-4), 8-1.
With the win, LHU moves to 2-1 on the season.
The Bald Eagles swept doubles play, winning all three matches and Lock Haven dominated singles play this afternoon in Williamsport by winning five of six matches.
In singles play,
Maddy Reeves (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville),
Mia Shuler (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport),
Hailey Risley (North Bend, Pa./Bucktail),
Olivia Sharp (York, Pa./York County School of Technology) and
McCartney Register (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain) all won to put points on the board for LHU.
At No. 1 singles, Reeves dominated Mary Kathryn Hillman 6-0, 6-1 and at No. 2 singles, Shuler bested Georgia Macensky 6-0, 6-0. In the third flight, Risley downed Amber Leitzel 6-4, 6-2.
Sharp won 6-0, 6-1 and Register won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 and 6 singles, respectively, to round out a truly sensational effort for Lock Haven individually.
Reeves and Shuler won 8-0 at No. 1 doubles, while
Delani Wolever (Northumberland, Pa./Shikellamy) and
Christy McLean (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe) posted an 8-0 victory in No. 2 doubles action. Sharp and Register were victorious at No. 3 doubles, capping the sweep and three-point effort in doubles action.
Yesterday (Thursday, Oct. 7), Lock Haven picked up its first dual win since the program returned in 2019. It marked LHU's first dual-match victory in women's tennis in 30 years as the Bald Eagles last won a dual during the 1991 season. Prior to the team's return in the fall of 2019, the Bald Eagles last competed in varsity women's tennis in 1992.
Lock Haven's busy three-day stretch continues tomorrow as the Bald Eagles head to Bloomsburg University for Bloomsburg's Weekend of Duals. Tomorrow (Saturday, Oct. 9), LHU will take on Virginia State (12 p.m.) and West Virginia Wesleyan (2:30 p.m.).
