Football falls to #16 Shepherd

The LHU football team fell to No. 16 Shepherd today at home in PSAC East action.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University football team (1-5, 0-3 PSAC East) fell to visiting and 16th-ranked Shepherd University (5-1, 2-1 PSAC East), 75-21, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action this afternoon at Hubert Jack Stadium.
 
Behind 308 total rushing yards and 314 passing yards from quarterback Tyson Bagent, the visiting Rams earned the divisional win. Bagent threw for five touchdowns, including four the in first half, as Shepherd led 48-7 at halftime.
 
Trailing 24-0, Lock Haven got on the board with 12:44 left in the second quarter after Kaden Bittinger (Clarence, Pa./Bald Eagle) scored on a 74-yard catch-and-run pass-play from LHU quarterback Jordan Heisey (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York).
 
Early in the third quarter, DeAndre Wakefield (Norristown, Pa./Souderton) busted off a 49-yard touchdown run. Wakefield headlined Lock Haven's offensive effort as he added another score late in the fourth after he found the back of the end zone from 16 yards out. He just missed the 100-yard mark after running for 97 yards on 13 carries.
 
Heisey (QB) threw for 194 yards (16-42, 2 INTs) and a TD in his first career collegiate start at The Haven.
 
Bittinger finished his breakout game with five catches for 107 yards and the one touchdown.
 
Shane Scott (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) finished with a game-high 10 tackles to lead the defense.
 
Monte Jones (Annapolis, Md./Saint Mary's), Morgan Markel (Philadelphia/John Bartram), Conner Meyer (Myersville, Pa./Middletown) and Austin Barber (Johnstown, Pa./Greater Johnstown) all recorded five tackles apiece.
 
The Bald Eagles will return to action when they head to nearby Bloomsburg University for Week-7 action next Saturday, October 16 (2 p.m.).
