EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – In its historic first ever dual meet in school history, the Lock Haven University women's wrestling team (0-1) fell just short of a win tonight vs. East Stroudsburg University (2-1), 24-23.
 
In the historic first ever effort, Lock Haven won five of eight bouts behind three pins and two tech falls. LHU however was forced to forfeit two bouts, ultimately costing the Bald Eagles the match. The Bald Eagles turned in an historic effort and made history tonight for LHU.
 
Alayna Gil (Gallitzin, Pa./Penn Cambria), Lillian Sherer (Shohola, Pa./Delaware Valley) and Lacey Hums (Branchville, N.J./High Point) led Lock Haven tonight, recording pins at 123, 130 and 191, respectively. Sherer's impressive pin at 130 gave LHU a 14-9 lead in the team score, but the two late forfeits at 143 and 155 put the Bald Eagles in a tight situation with just two bouts left.
 
Madison Packer and Jessica Johnson (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) turned in notable efforts for technical falls for Lock Haven. Johnson did so after bumping up a class late in the meet. She was originally scheduled to wrestle at 155, but with LHU needing two straight pins she bumped up to 170 to give the Bald Eagles a chance at the comeback.
 
Johnson nearly had the all-important pin on Bri Simsic of ESU. Late in the match, Johnson had Simsic on her back, but just barely missed the pin opportunity. Her performance was nonetheless dominant, and she turned in an impressive 11-0 victory.
 
For Lock Haven, this 2021-22 season will mark the first full season of competition with a full roster, and the Bald Eagles young student-athletes are already showing head coach Ronnie Perry glimpses of a bright future.
