LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Playing for the fourth time in five days, the Lock Haven University tennis team (0-5, 0-5 PSAC East) closed the 2020-21 regular season today at home by hosting Bloomsburg University (4-3, 4-2 PSAC East) in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action. The visiting Huskies won 7-0.
Prior to the match, LHU head coach
John Machak and the Bald Eagles honored their two graduating seniors -
Victoria Bensinger (Northampton, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) and
Jayna Brodnicki (Morris, Pa./North Penn-Liberty). The two played an important role in helping guide the team back to play after LHU women's varsity tennis officially returned at The Haven last fall.
Leading the way today for LHU on the courts was
Natalie Brown (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain), who battled hard at No. 3 singles. She went up 4-1 in the opening set, before being edged out 6-4. Bloomsburg's Sarah Capoferri won the second set 6-2 and took the match.
Saige Whipple (Montgomery, Pa./Montgomery) was edged by Anna Chikhalenko 7-6, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. The first set went to the tiebreaker as Whipple opened the day well.
