Game 1: West Chester 4 – Lock Haven 3
WCU took game one 4-3 in a tightly-contest game that saw the visitors rally late.
Â
Garrett Nepert (Preston, Md./Chesapeake County C.C.) broke up Joe Sperone's bid for a no-hitter in dramatic fashion as he blasted an opposite-field three-run home run. Sperone was perfect through four innings, but he walked a pair of Bald Eagles in the bottom of the fifth. With two outs and a pair of runners on in the bottom half of the fifth, Nepert connected and drilled a ball over the right-field fence.
Â
The homer put Lock Haven up 3-2 after five.
Â
West Chester responded in the top of the sixth and tied the game at 1-1 and in the top of the seventh, the visitors pushed the eventual game-winning run across the plate.
Â
On the mound in game one was Mellott – a senior – who finished with three strikeouts.
Â
Game 2: West Chester 12 – Lock Haven 8
Â
West Chester jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a two run homerun in the second inning.
Â
Â
Gavin Troutman (Oley Valley, Pa./Catholic Oley Valley) and
Justin Lichtenwalner (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) each produced a run from RBI singles.
Jake Mastillo (Moscow, Pa./North Pocono) plated the third run of the inning on a sacrifice fly.
Â
The Golden Rams got the offense going in the fourth inning scoring seven runs on their way to a 12-8 victory.
Â
Mastillo did all he could to get the Bald Eagles back in with two home runs in back to back at bats. Both of the home runs were two run shots. Mastillo finished the day with five RBI's for the Haven.
Â
Gilpin, who is normally on the mound for Lock Haven, pinch hit in the bottom of the seventh inning collecting his first hit and stolen base in a Lock Haven uniform.
