CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men's soccer team (0-0-1) opened the 2021 season today on the road at California (Pa.) University (0-1-1) and the two teams battled to a hard-fought 1-1 double-overtime draw.
Lock Haven got on the scoreboard early after
Tom Pombor (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) made it 1-0 just 5:14 into the match.
Pombor tucked a crossing-pass from
Zane Puhala (Brockway, Pa./Brockway) into the side netting for LHU's first goal of the season.
It proved to be a tight match throughout and the hosts leveled things at 1-1 in the 75
th minute of play and at the end of regulation, the two teams remained deadlocked at 1-1.
Jason Keller (Port Matilda, Pa./State College) played well in goal for Lock Haven and finished with three saves. Rookie
Samuel Hershey (Lancaster, Pa./McCaskey) created a good scoring chance for LHU midway through the second OT period, but he pushed the ball just wide.
The Bald Eagles 2021 home-opener will come on Wednesday, September 8 at 4 p.m. when they host No. 17 Gannon.
