LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University volleyball team (1-3) concluded it's 2021 season opening weekend with a pair of losses at home.
 
The Bald Eagles opened the day by handing Notre Dame (OH) it's only set loss of the tournament, but eventually dropped the matchup, 1-3 (21-25, 25-15, 6-25, 18-25). LHU would later surrender the nightcap to Slippery Rock in five contentious sets, 2-3 (22-25, 25-22, 25-20, 17-25, 12-15).
 
Lock Haven split the first two sets with Notre Dame, losing the first set, 21-25, before picking up a thrashing victory in the second, 25-15. Notre Dame would collect the next two, 25-6 and 25-18.
Gabriela Fialova (Ledec Nad Sazavou, Czech Republic/Indian River State) looked great beyond the line serving up three aces on thirteen attempts. She added 23 receptions on the opposite side of the ball and only gave up one reception error.

Grace Hugar (Clarence, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) led the attack category killing 12 on 43 attempts. Kelly Gaston (Centennial, CO./ Grandview) was the centerpiece for the Bald Eagles again, setting up 25 assists on 125 attempts.
 
Game two started with a loss to Slippery Rock 22-25, before LHU would win two straight (25-22, 25-20). SRU's recovery of set four (25-17) would push the match to a climatic fifth set and the Rock would eventually steal the win from the Bald Eagles (15-12).
 
Gaston was fantastic again, notching three kills and 44 assists from the midfloor. Her set percentage was .314 over the span of game four.
 
The dynamic duo of Fialova and Hugar proved volatile again, as the pair put back a total of 30 kills on 112 attacks. Hugar would add a perfect 20 serves and an ace. Her perfect reception percentage and 31 receptions marked a team high.
 
 Meghan Tennant (Bentleyville, Pa./Bentworth), Krystal Heffelfinger (Danielsville, Pa./Northampton) and Ella McBride (Arlington Heights, IL./Buffalo Grove) also played notably well.
