Wrestling cruises to pair of victories to wrap up busy weekend

The Bald Eagles used bonus points to dominate California Baptist and mid-state rival Bloomsburg on Saturday afternoon.

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Competing for the second time in as many days, the Lock Haven University men's wrestling team (6-5) cruised to a pair of victories on Saturday afternoon at Bloomsburg University.
 
Lock Haven opened the day with a 37-11 victory over California Baptist before taking down the host Huskies by a 34-9 score in a Mid-American Conference (MAC) clash.

Anthony Noto (Lima, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima (NC State)), the 27th-ranked wrestler in the nation at 125 pounds, kept things rolling for the Bald Eagles in his first season in the Crimson and White. Noto ran out to a 10-2 lead before a late-period tilt sealed the bout. Noto's turn in the waning seconds earned him the fall at the 2:55 mark of the bout to give Lock Haven a 6-0 match lead.
 
Cole Manley (Altoona, Pa./Altoona (Virginia Tech)) picked up a victory via forfeit at 133 pounds before the Bald Eagles dropped a pair of bouts via major decision at 141 and 149 pounds to see their match lead get trimmed to a 12-8 advantage.
 
Ben Barton (Louisville, Ky./Trinity (Campbell)) posted a victory at 157 pounds via forfeit to extend the Lock Haven lead back to double figures, 18-8, at the halfway point of the match.
 
Ashton Eyler (Millersburg, Ohio/Claymont High (Iowa Central CC)) kept things rolling for the Bald Eagles with a hard-fought victory at 165 pounds. Eyler used a late-period takedown and tilt to run out to a 4-0 advantage after three minutes of action. The Millersburg, Ohio native was effective over the remainder of the bout and used a 1:47 riding time advantage to earn an 11-3 major decision victory, extending the Bald Eagles advantage to 22-8.
 
At 174 pounds, Tyler Stoltzfus (Mifflinburg, Pa./Saint Joseph's Academy) led by a slim 4-2 margin in the third period before a late-bout turn earned four near-fall points. Stoltzfus added a riding time point to secure a 9-2 victory.
 
Lock Haven dropped the bout at 184 pounds, but secured the dual-meet victory with two bouts left to contest.
 
Parker McClellan (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) owned a 7-2 advantage late in the bout at 197 pounds, but added the exclamation point with a fall at the 6:58 mark to push the Lock Haven advantage to 31-11.
 
In the finale at 285 pounds, 33rd-ranked Isaac Reid (Saltsburg, Pa./Kiski) dominated in picking up a fall at the 2:03 mark of the bout to put the finishing touches on a 37-11 victory over the Lancers.

Noto got things started off once again for the Bald Eagles, and secured a dual-meet opening victory at 125 pounds. The Lima, N.Y. native turned in a 20-7 major decision victory to pick up his team-leading 21st win of the year. Noto has now won 18 consecutive bouts.
 
The Bald Eagles dropped bouts at 133 and 141 pounds before getting back on track at 149 pounds. Connor Eck (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) turned in a dominating effort at 149 pounds, posting a 15-5 major decision victory to trim the Huskies lead to 9-8.
 
Barton kept things going for Lock Haven at 157 pounds and gave the Bald Eagles the dual-meet lead for good. The Louisville, Ky. native recorded a first period takedown to establish the early lead and held off a late-surge to win a 5-4 decision victory via the riding time bonus point.
 
At 165 pounds, Eyler posted an impressive 16-1 tech fall victory. Eyler amassed a 4:06 riding time advantage in the win and extended the LHU advantage to 16-9.
 
Stoltzfus made it a two-for-two afternoon with a victory by fall at 174 pounds, further building the Lock Haven lead to 22-9 with three bouts remaining.
 
Colin Fegley (Mahanoy, Pa./Mahanoy) ran out to a 7-0 lead in the bout at 184 pounds and used a nearly two-minute advantage in riding time to cruise to victory.

McClellan made it two-for-two on the day with his second pin of the afternoon. The Altoona, Pa. native used a tight cradle in the second period to earn the fall at the 3:42 mark of the bout, pushing the LHU advantage to 31-9 heading to the final bout of the day.
 
At 285 pounds, Reid continued his dominating performance in the Crimson and White singlet. Reid rolled to a 10-3 victory to earn his 10th win of the year, rounding out a 34-9 victory for the Bald Eagles.

The Road Ahead:
Following the Bald Eagles busy weekend, LHU returns home to host Mid-American Conference (MAC) foes George Mason on Friday (Jan. 21) and Clarion on Saturday (Jan. 22). Both duals are scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
