Football drops road contest with No. 4 Shepherd

The Lock Haven football team traveled to West Virginia for a conference match with the nationally-ranked Rams.

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. – The Lock Haven football team (1-5, 0-3 PSAC East) took to the road on Saturday afternoon, but fell to No. 4 Shepherd University (6-0, 3-0 PSAC East), 72-7, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action.
 
The No. 4 Rams started quickly and racked up 20 points in the first quarter and 28 more in the second quarter to take a 48-0 lead into the break.
 
The Bald Eagles got on the board early in the fourth quarter when Chase Holmes (Easton, Pa./Easton) capped off a 12 play 70-yard drive with a five-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Easton Turner (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge (Assumption)). The Bald Eagles lone touchdown of the day saw the Rams ahead 62-7.
 
The undefeated Rams added another ten points in the final quarter to notch the 72-7 victory over the Bald Eagles. Quarterback Tyson Bagent totaled 211 passing yards and threw three touchdown passes and added a rushing touchdown.
 
Holmes ended the day as The Haven's leading receiver with four catches for 55 yards, including the touchdown.
 
Defensively, Davien Vernon (Florence, N.J./Bergen Catholic) made eight tackles and added a half tackle for a loss. The trio of Austin Barber (Johnstown, Pa./Greater Johnstown), Nate Cammack (Beverly, N.J./Palmyra) and Victor Hunt (Bath, Pa./Northampton Area) each notched a tackle for a loss.
 
Through the air, Turner passed for 173 yards, and on the ground, DeAndre Wakefield (Norristown, Pa./Souderton) added 48 total yards.

The Bald Eagles return to Hubert Jack Stadium on Saturday, October 15 to host Bloomsburg. That game is set for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
