Women’s Wrestling Set for Home-Opener against East Stroudsburg

Lock Haven women’s wrestling opens the home slate with a dual meet against the Warriors on Thursday night.

Setting the Stage:

The Bald Eagles’ women’s wrestling team kicks off the home schedule with tonight’s (Nov. 10) dual versus East Stroudsburg. It marks the first home competition under the direction of first-year head coach Matt Lackey and the action will get underway at the Thomas Fieldhouse at 7 p.m.

Fast Start:

The Bald Eagles soared in their first competition of the season at the Princeton Open on Sunday (Nov. 6). Lock Haven crowned two individual champions in freshmen Kaelani Shufeldt and Grace Stem. It served as the first competition under newly hired head coach Matt Lackey and kicked off the 2022-23 season in style.

Opponent History:

Despite the Bald Eagles only having two official seasons of competition, Thursday’s meeting will mark the third with the Warriors. ESU has prevailed on team scores both meetings, but the Bald Eagles have won nine of the 14 contested bouts in the two matches.

Bald Eagles Ranked 19th Nationally:

As a team The Haven opened the season as the No. 19 team in the country in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) preseason NCAA Women's Wrestling rankings. Individually, Carly Gross was tabbed at the No. 7 wrestler in the country at 116 pounds.
