Men’s Basketball Falls in Road Contest with Alliance

The Lock Haven men’s basketball team hit the road on Thursday evening, but fell in non-conference play.

JERSEY CITY, N.J. - The Lock Haven men's basketball team (2-1) fell to Alliance University (3-1), 72-68, on the road on Thursday evening in non-conference action.

The Bald Eagles started on fire and quickly jumped out to a 14-0 lead out of the gate. However, the home team responded well over the remaining 15 minutes of the half and closed the gap to just a slim 35-33 Bald Eagle advantage at halftime.

Early in the second half, neither side was able to gain much traction to take control of the game until Alliance grabbed a 61-59 lead with just six minutes remaining. The lead grew only as high as five points at 66-61.

Lock Haven pulled back to within three with 1:30 remaining to bring the score to 69-66. LHU inched closer behind two made free throws from Dymir Montague (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) who cut the lead to 69-68 with just 28 seconds to play.

Alliance went on to knock down three clutch free throws and took the non-conference win, 72-68.

Jayy Davis (Cheltenham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham (Washington Adventist)) led four Bald Eagles in double figures in scoring. Davis knocked in 18 points to pace the balanced Haven attack.

Montague added 13 points and Eli Washington (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) chipped in 12 points of his own. James Price (Joppa, Md./Archbishop Curley) tallied 11 points to round out the Bald Eagles in double figures.

Washington also led The Haven handing out four assists. As a team, Alliance outrebounded The Haven 34-24, as Price, Davis and Justice Shoats (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Holy Redeemer) all paced LHU with four rebounds apiece.
