Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball surges past Shippensburg, 57-45

Robinson posts fourth double-double in last seven games to help propel Lock Haven to key conference victory.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. –  The Lock Haven University women's basketball team (10-12, 7-11 PSAC) took the lead on its opening possession and never looked back as the Bald Eagles made it back-to-back in the win column with a 57-45 victory over Shippensburg University (14-10, 10-8 PSAC) in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon in Thomas Fieldhouse.

Lock Haven never trailed and snapped a three-game skid against the Raiders with the win.

The Bald Eagles wasted little time in gaining the lead as Jaynelle Robinson (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport (Monroe CC)) converted on the opening possession. Robinson knocked in a layup to open the scoring and the Bald Eagles maintained the lead throughout the remainder of the first quarter, taking a 12-6 advantage into the second stanza.

In the second quarter, Shippensburg drew its deficit to as low as three points at a 15-12 tally with 7:28 to play in the opening half, but the Raiders were doubled up over the remainder of the half by a balanced Bald Eagles attack. Brooke Lawyer (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) converted a pair of free throws and Robinson added a layup as LHU ended the first on a 14-7 run to take a 29-19 advantage into the locker room.

Robinson made the most of the start to her Senior Day, posting a game-high 12 points in the opening 20 minutes. Lock Haven's defense was up to the task in the first half as well, limiting the visiting Raiders to an 8-of-25 (32%) effort from the floor while forcing nine Shippensburg miscues.

Out of the halftime break, the Bald Eagles scored seven of the first 10 points of the second half to run out to their largest lead of the game. Audrey Weigl (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) knocked down a three pointer with 5:31 to play in the third quarter extending the Lock Haven lead to a 36-22 tally. Lock Haven maintained its double-digit lead as the game headed to the final quarter with the Bald Eagles taking a 39-28 lead.

Lock Haven maintained a double-digit lead until the waning minutes of the contest. With 2:27 to play, Shippensburg trimmed the Crimson and White lead to nine points, but that was as close as the Raiders got as Robinson answered with a layup to earn her 17th point of the game, extending the Lock Haven lead to 54-43 with 81 ticks to play.

The Bald Eagles converted at the stripe down the stretch to put the finishing touches on a convincing 57-45 victory over the Raiders.

Robinson's 17-point, 15 rebound double-double led the way for the Bald Eagles on the offensive end. Ahnera Parker (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) added 14 points, while Lawyer chipped in 13 points and added 10 rebounds to post her first career double-double.

Lock Haven dominated the glass in the contest, owning a 45-32 advantage in the rebounds department. The Bald Eagles also posted a 22-3 advantage in bench scoring.
