MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Jaynelle Robinson (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport (Monroe CC)) converted a conventional three point-play in the waning minutes of action to break a 57-57 deadlock as Lock Haven University (13-13, 10-12 PSAC) capped off the regular season in style with a 66-57 victory over Millersville University (7-20, 6-16 PSAC) on Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) women's basketball action.
Lock Haven's road win marked its fifth victory in six games and completed the season sweep of the Marauders. The Bald Eagles also ran their winning streak against Millersville to six games and put the finishing touches on the program's third-straight season with double-digits in the wins column.
Lock Haven took the lead early on in a back-and-forth first half that saw six lead changes. Robinson knocked in a layup to open the scoring before a cold-streak from the floor allowed Millersville to take the lead.
The Maruaders led by a 12-7 score with 3:13 to play in the first frame, but the Bald Eagles used an 8-0 run capped off by three-pointers from Brooke Lawyer (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) and Carly Fitzmorris (Hamburg, N.J./Pope John XXIII) to take a 15-12 lead after 10 minutes of play.
In the second quarter, the lead changed four times with Millersville owning a 23-19 lead with 5:38 to play in half number one. Lock Haven controlled the remainder of the first half, posting an 11-4 run to take a 30-27 lead into the intermission. Fitzmorris handed the Bald Eagles the lead with another trey, this time with 14 ticks to play in the second stanza, to wrap up the scoring in the first half.
Lock Haven had an efficient-shooting first half, going 11-of-27 (40.7%) from the floor as they overcame a relentless Maruaders full-court press to take the lead into the locker room.
Out of the intermission, Lock Haven maintained its halftime lead until Millersville drew the game back to a 35-35 deadlock with 6:17 to go in the third quarter. Jackie Fetsko (Marion Center, Pa./Marion Center) converted a pair of free throws to open up a 12-2 run as Lock Haven took control in over the remainder of the third quarter and owned a 47-40 lead with 10 minutes to play in the regular season.
Millersville knotted the game up multiple times in the fourth quarter, but Lock Haven was effective in breaking the Marauders' full-court press down the stretch and converted from the charity stripe as LHU scored the game's final nine points to ride away with a 66-57 victory.
Lock Haven's balanced scoring attack was led by Robinson's 13-point outing. Fetsko added a dozen points, while Ahnera Parker (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) chipped in 11 and Fitzmorris tallied 10 points to round out four players in double figures.
The Bald Eagles shot at a 55% clip in the second half on 11-of-20 shooting and rounded out the game with a 46.8% (22-of-47) field goal percentage. LHU was also effective at the free-throw line, finishing the game 19-of-22 for an 86.4% effort from the stripe.
