GLENVILLE, W. Va. – The Lock Haven University softball team (1-3) got the 2022 season underway this weekend in West Virginia. The Bald Eagles met West Virginia Wesleyan and Clarion on Saturday (Feb. 26), before wrapping it up today (Feb. 27) versus Seton Hill and Glenville State.

Game 1: W, 10-7 – West Virginia Wesleyan

Delaney Good (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg),
Summer Peters (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Stroudsburg) and
Rianna Trexler (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) each notched two RBIs as The Haven offense got off to a hot start against West Virginia Wesleyan.

The quartet of
Haley Lestician (Lawrenceville, N.J/Lawrence),
Bella Schmitt (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York),
Sydney Arrigale (Blackwood, N.J./Highland Regional) and
Mikayla Ruppert (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) all added an RBI apiece as LHU racked up its ten runs on 15 hits.

Madison Waltman pitched the full game and picked up the win for the Bald Eagles. Waltman struck out two batters as LHU won its opening game of 2022.

Game 2: L, 9-8 – Clarion
Â
The Bald Eagles fell behind 6-0 to Clarion in the opening two innings, but would battle all the way back to tie the game at 8-8 in the sixth inning before eventually falling in the eighth.

Lestician racked up three more RBIs in the LHU comeback, and Schmitt was also strong and picked up two RBIs of her own.
Riley McClellan (Granville Summit, Pa./Troy) and Arrigale also knocked in an RBI each.

Game 3: L, 6-1 – Seton Hill
Â
Peters' lone RBI for the Bald Eagles knotted the game up at 1-1 in the bottom of the first, but LHU was unable to crack Clarion's strong pitching effort and dropped the opening game on Sunday, 6-1.

LHU was held to four hits as Chloe Elliot went five solid innings to get the win for Clarion.

Game 4: L, 5-1 – Glenville State
Lestician capped her strong weekend with a fourth inning solo homerun, but that was one of just four hits as the Bald Eagles fell to the hosts 5-1 in the final game of the weekend.

Waltman once again pitched all seven innings for the Bald Eagles and struck out six.

The Bald Eagles travel to Winter Haven, Florida for the PFX Tournament from March 11
th to 15
th. LHU will play six games over the tournament and open with American International on Friday, March 11.
