LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – Behind wins in seven of the ten contested bouts, the Lock Haven University (8-5, 4-1 MAC) wrestling team took the show on the road and returned with convincing 24-10 Mid-American Conference (MAC) victory over Rider University (2-7, 2-4 MAC) on Sunday afternoon.Â
Lock Haven fell behind early in the match but rattled off six wins in a row to pull away from the Broncs for the program's fifth dual-meet victory in a row.Â
The match started at 125 pounds and the Bald Eagles got out to an early lead from the efforts of 21st-ranked
Anthony Noto (Lima, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima (NC State)). Noto rolled to his 24th victory of the season with a convincing 18-5 major decision victory. With the major decision triumph - his fifth of the year - Noto moves to 24-1 on the season.Â
Following the victory at 125 pounds, Lock Haven would be held off the scoreboard for the next three bouts as Rider took a 10-4 advantage into the matchup at 157 pounds. Despite three losses in a row, the Bald Eagles held tough and dropped a pair of one-point decisions in the bouts at 133 and 149 pounds, respectively. The victory for the Broncs at 149 pounds would mark their final triumph of the day.Â
At 157 pounds, 31st-ranked
Ben Barton (Louisville, Ky./Trinity (Campbell)) got the Bald Eagles back on track with a bonus-point victory. Barton posted a 12-4 major decision victory - his sixth of the year - to trim the Rider advantage to 10-8 at the halftime break.
Out of the intermission, No. 24
Ashton Eyler (Millersburg, Ohio/Claymont High (Iowa Central CC)) picked up his team-leading 27th victory of the year in major decision fashion at 165 pounds. Eyler was victorious by a 16-7 tally, as the Bald Eagles regained the match lead for good at a 12-10 score.Â
Tyler Stoltzfus (Mifflinburg, Pa./Saint Joseph's Academy) kept things rolling for the Bald Eagles with a hard-fought 4-2 victory at 174 pounds before
Colin Fegley (Mahanoy, Pa./Mahanoy) got his season back on track with a solid 6-1 victory in the matchup at 184 pounds. Lock Haven led by an 18-10 tally with two bouts left to contest.Â
At 197 pounds,
Parker McClellan (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) put the match away for Lock Haven, securing the program's fifth win in a row. McClellan notched his 13th win of the year with an 8-4 victory.Â
Lock Haven concluded the afternoon as No. 26
Isaac Reid (Saltsburg, Pa./Kiski) remained unbeaten in dual-meet action with a 6-1 win at 285 pounds. Reid's win was his 15th of the year and ninth in dual meets to put the finishing touches on a resounding 24-10 victory for the Crimson and White. Â
With the win, the Bald Eagles have not lost a MAC dual in calendar year 2022 with the dual meet schedule set to conclude next weekend.Â
