The LHU lacrosse team picked up a road win over Shippensburg behind a strong second half performance.

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Lock Haven University lacrosse team (3-1) downed Shippensburg University (2-1), 10-8, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East-West crossover matchup on Friday evening.

Caitlin Morrow (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) got the Bald Eagles rolling early and scored the first three goals of the match for LHU. Late in the second quarter the Raiders and Bald Eagles were locked in a tight 3-3 defensive affair. In the final five minutes, LHU jumped ahead and took a slender 5-4 lead into the halftime break.

The deadlock continued in the second half and after Shippensburg grabbed the lead in the second half, Josey Shaffer (Westminster, Md./Manchester Valley) knotted things up at 6-6. Zoe Waddell (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) struck in the final minute of the third quarter and edged the Bald Eagles in front 7-6.

In the fourth quarter, the Bald Eagles finally got breathing room and pulled ahead 10-7 with just five minutes to play. Shippensburg pulled one back in the dying moments, but LHU notched the 10-8 road win.

Morrow paced all players and racked up five points on four goals and one assist.

Waddell added three goals of her own and Casey Hibbard (Ontario, N.Y./Wayne Central) netted two goals and handed out an assist.

Defensively, Krysta Reading (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) posted a team-bests with three caused turnovers and four draw controls. Madison Lapiana (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Farmingdale) also caused two turnovers as LHU tightened down in the second half.
