Baseball drops nine-inning game against Mansfield

The LHU baseball team traveled to Mansfield, as the neighbors of the north competed in an offensive battle.

MANSFIELD, Pa. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (9-25, 2-16 PSAC East) faced off against Mansfield University (19-18, 11-7 PSAC East) in a high scoring Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern division matchup. The Mounties won the afternoon contest, 19-10, adding to their six game win-streak.

The Bald Eagles started off with a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Gavin Troutman (Boyertown, Pa./Oley Valley) and Justin Lichtenwalner (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) each scored from third on past pitches to start the scoring. The next at-bat saw Blaise Zeiders (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove) blast his first home run of the season over the center field wall.

Mansfield first three innings of offense placed 13 unanswered runs on the scoreboard to take a double-digit lead.

Jake Mastillo (Roaring Brook Twp, Pa./North Pocono) stopped the Mounties' momentum with an RBI single in the top of the fourth to make it 13-4. Nick White (Halethorpe, Md./Lansdowne (CCBC Dundalk)) became the second Bald Eagle of the day with their first home run of the season, smashing a three-run ball right past the leftfield pole to start the fifth.

MU added six more insurance runs across the next two innings to make it 19-7.

The top of the ninth saw Troutman, White, and Andrew Ramirez (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) drive in the last runs for LHU, but the Mounties claimed the afternoon victory, 19-10.
