Softball splits road doubleheader against East Stroudsburg

The LHU softball team competed in a conference doubleheader on Friday afternoon against a nationally recognized opponent.

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Lock Haven University softball team (17-18, 6-10 PSAC East) traveled to East Stroudsburg (33-7, 8-6 PSAC East), who received votes in this week's national poll, and the Warriors grabbed game one, 5-0, but the Bald Eagles responded for a win in game two, 4-3.

Game 1: L, East Stroudsburg 5, Lock Haven 0

The Warriors opened with a two-run blast to start off the first. ESU added three more runs in the fourth and fifth innings and finished off the game, winning game one, 5-0.

Katie Zaun picked up the win, completing the shutout, striking out twelve and only allowing four hits in the contest.

The quartet Bald Eagles that collected a hit included Sydney Arrigale (Blackwood, N.J./Highland Regional), Morgan Karasek (Bangor, Pa./Bangor), Summer Peters (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) and Amanda Criss (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air).

Game 2: W, Lock Haven 4, East Stroudsburg 3

Game two remained scoreless until the top of the fourth when Karasek and Bella Schmitt (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) completed a suicide squeeze to grab the first run. Riley McClellan (Granville Summit, Pa./Troy) used her baserunning skills to score off a groundout to double the LHU lead at 2-0.

In the bottom of that inning, ESU split the lead in half after scoring on a passed ball.

Criss singled in the top of the sixth to increase the LHU lead back to two and made the score 3-1.

The Warriors tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on a wild pitch and a sac fly.

Just when LHU needed it, Karasek knocked in the go-ahead run with an RBI triple in the top of the seventh and the Bald Eagles silenced the Warriors in the final inning and brought home game two 4-3.
