Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Graduate Assistant: Christopher Valdez

Swartz’s brace pushes women’s soccer to win over California (Pa.).

The LHU women’s soccer team came from behind in the second half to secure the win against California (Pa.).

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's soccer team (1-0) took home the victory against California (Pa.) University (0-1) 3-1 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East-West crossover action.

Lock Haven opened the season today under the direction of interim head coach Peter Campbell. He was named the program's interim head coach as the Bald Eagles reported back to campus for preseason training. Campbell is no stranger to LHU women's soccer as he served several past stints as the head coach.

The Bald Eagles came out firing on all cylinders and went on the offensive attack for the majority of the first half. Although Lock Haven controlled the ball for most of the half, Cal. University struck first as they took a 1-0 lead.
Josie Swartz (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata) put on a show in the second half as she took advantage of a free kick to tie the game at one a piece. At the 56-minute mark of the game, Swartz broke away and slipped it passed the keeper to give the Bald Eagles the lead on an assist by Leana Cuzzocrea (Mars, Pa./Mars Area).
In the 70th minute, Janessa Swartz (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata) took a corner for Lock Haven and assisted Sydney Bolles (Dingmans Ferry, Pa./Deleware Valley) as she headed in the third and final goal for the Bald Eagles went on to win 3-1.

When the PSAC announced the preseason coaches' poll on August 16, the Bald Eagles were tabbed eighth in the Eastern Division. Last season, Lock Haven finished 5-12-1 (3-12-1 PSAC East).
