Tennis opens season at Bloomsburg Invite

The Lock Haven tennis team opened day one of the Bloomsburg Invite on Saturday, but Sunday’s action was canceled because of weather.

Box Score BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Lock Haven women's tennis team kicked off the 2022-23 season on Saturday (Sept. 10) with a successful day one of the Bloomsburg Invitational, but Sunday's closing day of tennis was canceled because of rain and an unfavorable forecast.
 
In doubles action, Olivia Anastos (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain (Cal. (Pa.))) and Olivia Sharp (York, Pa/York County School of Technology) picked up an 8-6 win over Bloomsburg, and finished the day at 1-1 in flight three.
 

Anastos was also strong in singles action and defeated Bloomsburg's Juliana Kim 4-0 & 4-0 along with Sophie Lanius of Millersville 4-1, 3-5 & 10-8. Anastos was 2-0 on the day and was set for the 1st place match in flight five today before the rain cancelation.
 

Mary Kathryn Hillman (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport (Penn College)) also secured a singles win in flight six. Hillman knocked off Maddie Delisio of Bloomsburg 4-1 & 4-1 before falling in the semifinals to go 1-1 on the day.
 

After dropping her opening match in flight five, Olivia Sharp (York, Pa/York County School of Technology) rebounded impressively with a 4-0 & 4-0 win over Heidi Daniels of Davis & Elkins to move to 1-1. Sharp was set to compete in the fifth-place match today.

The Bald Eagles are set for their home-opener on Friday, September 16 when they play host to Penn College. That match is set for 3 p.m. and also serves as the Bald Eagles 2022 Homecoming Match.
