LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's soccer team (3-1-2, 1-1-2 PSAC East) hosted East Stroudsburg University (5-0-1, 3-0-1 PSAC East) as the two squads faced off in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action on Wednesday afternoon. ESU stole away with a close road win, 2-1.
Today's Atlantic Regional poll featured PSAC domination with eight members in the top ten, including the Warriors at No. 4 and the Bald Eagles at No. 9. ESU came into the matchup unbeaten, representing a PSAC powerhouse that has won four of the last seven PSAC Tournament titles.
The first half saw a tightly contested battle with nine shots and eight corners to defend. In the 34th minute, ESU capitalized off a foul to score on a free kick from twenty-five yards out to give the Warriors the early lead.
LHU returned fire with an equalizer from Evelyn Ciaccia (Fairless Hills, Pa./Pennsbury) with a classy assist from Avery Landrum (Laureldale, Pa./Muhlenberg) to even the scoreboard in the 44th minute.
A 63rd minute strike on a breakaway gave the Warriors a 2-1 lead.
For the last thirty minutes, the game saw scrappy play as the two teams battled for the important result. LHU created a handful of chances in the closing minutes, but the Bald Eagles were unable to find the equalizing goal, and the Warriors held on for the 2-1 victory.
Landrum helped boost the offense for LHU, as she placed both of her two shots on target.
