Four Players Score Double Digits; Men’s Basketball Grabs Road Win at Kutztown

The Lock Haven men’s basketball team traveled to Kutztown and the bench made a huge impact to help steal a road conference victory.

KUTZTOWN, Pa. - The Lock Haven University men's basketball team (11-3, 7-2 PSAC East) arrived to Kutztown University (5-9, 5-4 PSAC East) for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contest on Saturday afternoon, which saw the Bald Eagles secure an important conference road victory, 87-77.

The four members of the team reached double digits in the game including James Price (Joppa, Md./Archbishop Curley) with 23, Justice Shoats (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Holy Redeemer) with 23, Jayy Davis (Cheltenham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham (Washington Adventist)) with 12, and Isaiah Stewart (Madison, Wis./Madison La Follette) with 11.

For Shoats and Price, the 23-point outbursts mark career-bests for both as the pair exploded to guide The Haven.

Kutztown started off strong on their home court, creating an early 10-4 lead through the first five minutes.

LHU came alive over the next eight minutes, orchestrating a 19-5 run to help create their lead. Over that run, Davis and Shoats shined for the road team, combining for 12 of those points. This run helped cement a dominant first half for the Bald Eagles, leading by as many as 17 as they took a 40-27 into the locker room.

Price helped fuel the offense for the team throughout the second half, planting 10 of the first 14 points of the half to help take a 54-40 lead.

The Golden Bears responded with a 12-5 run over the next two minutes to erase the double-digit lead and claw back into the contest.

Over the remaining ten minutes, Kutztown was able to slowly chip away at the lead, but could never fully complete the comeback. The game got as close as five points with a minute left, but The Haven bounced back with toughness to claim the 87-77 victory.

Lock Haven's bench showed up with a resounding impact and combined for 39 points and shot 61% (14-23) from the field.
