LOCK HAVEN, Pa. –
Justice Shoats (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Holy Redeemer) scored a game-high 22 points and
Collin Jones (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) netted 21 as the two carried the Lock Haven men's basketball team to an 80-66 victory over visiting Pitt-Johnstown (2-4, 0-1 PSAC) tonight in the Bald Eagles' 2023-24 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opener.
With the win, Lock Haven's third straight victory, the Bald Eagles move to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in PSAC play.
The Haven is also 2-0 at home.
For Shoats, it marked another monster outing for the Bald Eagle. Behind his game-high 22 points, he also dished out a career-high nine assists to go along with six steals, six rebounds and two blocks.
Jones was once again too much for the opposition on the offensive end and the hometown-standout shot 10-of-15 from the floor, and powered The Haven to victory.
Isaiah Stewart (Madison, Wisc./Madison La Follette) added a career-high 14 points in the winning effort. Stewart knocked down three 3-pointers, going 3-of-4 from downtown.
Jalen Gorham (York, Pa./MacDuffie School) netted eight points and added five rebounds, and
Dyson Harward (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) chipped in with seven points and five boards.
Bryson Scott (Dacula, Ga./Penfield) grabbed six rebounds.
Lock Haven led 43-31 at halftime and surged late in the game to seal the important victory at home.
Overall, the Bald Eagles shot 56-percent from the floor and held an important advantage in rebounds.
Not to be overlooked, the Lock Haven defense was more than up to the task and forced 14 UPJ turnovers.
The Bald Eagles scored 23 points off turnovers and benefitted from 29 total points off the bench.
