Softball Caps Florida Trip with Second Straight Sweep

The LHU softball team wrapped up its trip to Florida today with a dominating sweep. The Bald Eagles rolled by D’Youville, 13-2 (5 inn.) and topped Salem, 11-3 (6 inn.).

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Lock Haven University softball team wrapped up its trip to Florida today (Tuesday, March 14) with a sensational effort as the Bald Eagles swept the competition for the second consecutive day. Lock Haven opened the day with an impressive 13-2 win over D'Youville in five innings, and The Haven capped the day and swing through Florida with an 11-3 win over Salem in six innings.
 
With today's sweep, Lock Haven improved to 9-5 overall on the season. The Bald Eagles went an impressive 6-2 during their eight-game stretch in Florida. LHU certainly found its offensive groove over the last two days, and, in the six – recent - wins in Florida, Lock Haven outscored the opposition, 62-21. In yesterday's sweep of Felician and Saint Michael's, and, in today's sweep of D'Youville and Salem, Lock Haven outscored opponents 43-14 over the four wins (*23 innings). 

The bats kept pace again today, and the Bald Eagles combined for 24 runs on 24 hits in the victories over D'Youville and Salem.
 
In the day's opener, Lock Haven rolled to lopsided 13-2, five-inning win over D'Youville. Pitcher Jada Schellhammer (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua) threw well from the circle and The Haven offense was clicking at the plate once again to the tune of 13 runs on 11 hits.
 
The aforementioned - Schellhammer took a no-hitter into the fourth inning. In the end, she scattered five late-game hits, struck out two, and walked two in five innings of work.
 
Delaney Good (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) went 3-for-3 with three runs scored to lead the way for Lock Haven. Bella Schmitt (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) had a two-hit game, and Sydney Arrigale (Blackwood, N.J./Highland Regional) drove in a pair of runs. Summer Peters (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) finished with three RBIs and two runs scored.
 
In the top of the third vs. D'Youville, Lock Haven broke the game open with a 10-spot.
 
In today's second game – the final game in Florida – Lock Haven dropped Salem, 11-3 in six innings. The Bald Eagles scored 11 runs on 13 hits.
 
Schmitt carried a strong bat into game two. She put Lock Haven up 2-0 in the bottom of the first with a two-run home run and she finished 2-for-2 with two runs scored, and three RBIs. Haley Lestician (Lawrenceville, N.J./Lawrence) was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, and Peters finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
 
Riley McClellan (Granville Summit, Pa./Troy) had two hits and Arrigale hit a two-run home run in the fifth.
 
Madison Waltman (Turbotville, Pa./Warrior Run) picked up the win as she struck out three over six innings.
 
Up Next for Lock Haven:
On the horizon is Lock Haven's 2023 home-opener which is scheduled for Saturday, March 18 vs. Pitt-Johnstown at 1 p.m. The Bald Eagles will enter the weekend on a four-game win streak.
