LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (9-13, 3-9 PSAC East) dropped both games of a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division doubleheader today at home to No. 11 Millersville University (25-4, 9-0 PSAC East). Millersville won game one 5-0 after a late surge, and the visitors completed the sweep after edging out the Bald Eagles, 2-1 in a tight series-finale.
Millersville broke open a game-one pitcher's duel in the top of the seventh (*scheduled 7-inning game) with five runs.
Lock Haven starter
Kevin Worek (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Abington) pitched well. Over six innings, he struck out four and allowed just one hit.
Millersville scored its five runs on three hits as pitching was the story throughout the day's opener. Marauder starter Ben Wilchacky allowed just one hit over five and 2/3 innings.
Visiting Millersville completed the sweep with a 2-1 game-two victory despite the Bald Eagles doing all they could to rally up some late-game magic.
The Marauders plated two in the second and led 2-0 but Lock Haven was able to respond in the bottom of the fifth. Still trailing by one (2-1) in the bottom of the ninth inning – in a scheduled nine-inning game – the Bald Eagle had the game-tying run at third, but just couldn't sneak it home.
For LHU,
Tom Rohan (Scranton, Pa./Holy Cross) was credited with an RBI in the fifth.
Up Next for Lock Haven:
The Bald Eagles will return to action on Tuesday, April 4 when they travel to IUP for a PSAC East-West crossover. Game one of the doubleheader is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
