BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Lock Haven women's soccer team (1-4, 1-3 PSAC East) picked up its first win of the 2023 season as the Bald Eagles blanked perennial Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) power and host Bloomsburg (2-3-2, 2-2-1 PSAC East), 1-0, tonight in PSAC East action.
The all-important goal came for Lock Haven's
Luca Verello (Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan) in the 75
th minute of play and goalkeeper
Megan Miller (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) was absolutely brilliant as she finished with 11 saves.
The victory also marked the first of head coach
Sunny Gelnovatch's career, who is in her first season at the helm of The Haven program.
For the Bald Eagles, it marked their first game in a week. Lock Haven had dropped their first four matches of the season, all by one goal entering tonight's important PSAC East road match.
Winner's of two straight games, the Huskies were picked second in the PSAC East preseason poll and entered tonight's match ranked No. 10 in the Atlantic Region.
The two teams were deadlocked in a 0-0 tie at halftime, but Verello provided the second-half surge for the Bald Eagles when she scored late on a header off a pass from
Janessa Swartz (Palmyra, Pa./Juniata).
For Miller, the 11-save effort is a single-match career high for the Bald Eagle. She had 10 in a game last season and it's the most in a single-game for Lock Haven since an 11-save outing back in 2021.
