Volleyball opens PSAC East play with road victory over Bloomsburg

The Bald Eagles opened their PSAC East schedule at Bloomsburg on Friday night with a big win.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven volleyball team won its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division opener at Bloomsburg 3-1 (25-15, 20-25, 25-23, 25-21) on Friday (Sept. 22).
 
The Bald Eagles improved to 5-3 overall and 1-0 in PSAC East play. Bloomsburg fell to 2-9 overall and 0-1 in conference action.
 
Lock Haven's most dominant set was in the opener, where the Bald Eagles upended the Huskies 25-15. The Bald Eagles committed just two errors while forcing nine and led 9-7 in kills with a successful hit rate of 32 percent.
 
The Huskies took the second set, 25-20, but it was the third set where the Bald Eagles gained the momentum, earning a hard-fought 25-23 victory.
 
The Haven carried the momentum into the fourth set with a 25-21 advantage to close out the match on top.
 
Picking up right where she left off after earning All-Tournament team honors last weekend in West Virginia, Emma Kelly (Cypress, Texas/Cypress Ranch) racked up a team-high 16 kills to pair with five digs.
 
Kelly Gaston (Centennial, Colo./Grandview) made her impact felt on both sides of the ball, finishing with an impressive 41 assists and 18 digs. Kaitlyn Houck    (Tyrone, Pa./Tyrone) and Natalie Acevedo (Camuy, Puerto Rico/Paula Freire Social Justice Charter School) added 11 digs each, while Acevedo also finished with two kills and three aces.
 
Madison Eckley (Julian, Pa./Bald Eagle) filled up the stat sheet with a team-high 26 digs, three assists and two aces.
 
 
UP NEXT:
The Bald Eagles return to Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania on Sunday, but this time they will take on Assumption College in non-conference action at 1 p.m.
