Men’s Soccer opens season with tie at Cal (Pa.)

The Lock Haven men’s soccer team kicked off the 2023 season with a 1-1 tie against Cal (Pa.) on Sunday afternoon.

CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Lock Haven men's soccer team (0-0-1) opened the 2023 season today (Sun., Sept. 3) on the road at California (Pa.) (0-1-1) with a 1-1 tie in a non-conference match.

After a scoreless 17 minutes to open the match, Tom Pombor (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) put the Bald Eagles on top when he fired past the Vulcans' diving keeper off a helper from Davis Dull (Altoona, Pa./Blair County Christian School). The goal is the fourth of Pombor's career.

The Haven controlled possession from start to finish, limiting the Vulcans to just three shots, while firing off 11.

However, Cal made the most of their opportunity, sneaking in the equalizer on a cross into the box in the 73rd minute.

Neither team allowed another score the rest of the game, securing the tie.

Goalkeeper Brady Freiwald (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) made two saves in 90 minutes, moving to 0-0-1 in net on the season.

Kade Black (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) led the Bald Eagles with five shots, and four on goal. Pombor added two shots, both on goal.
