Women’s Wrestling to host York Sunday; Bald Eagles set to celebrate Senior Day

No. 10 Bald Eagles set to return to action with home dual vs. York on Sunday; Haven to honor seniors pre-match

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The nationally-ranked Lock Haven women's wrestling team is set to return to action this weekend at home as the Bald Eagles host York College on Sunday, Jan. 21 at 2 p.m. in Thomas Fieldhouse.
 
For Lock Haven, it will mark the Bald Eagles first home dual since a 35-12 victory over Elmira on November 30, 2023.
 
Sunday's match will serve as Lock Haven's 2024 Senior Day and prior to the dual, head coach Matt Lackey and the Bald Eagles will honor seniors: Carly Gross, Madison Matta, Samantha Reitnour and Victoria Smith.
 
It will mark The Haven's first competition since the National Dual Championships, held Jan. 5-6. Lock Haven is an impressive 8-4 overall, while York is 4-2 overall and the Spartans most recently went 2-1 at the Ursinus Duals on Jan. 7.
 
This week (Jan. 18), the National Wrestling Coaches' Association (NWCA) released the most recent NWCA/NCAA Coaches' Rankings and Lock Haven was ranked No. 10 in the nation as a team.
 
Standouts Kaelani Shufeldt and Grace Stem were both listed in the most recent individual national rankings (Jan. 18) as they each checked in at No. 5 at 109 and 143, respectively.
 
Most recently, Shufeldt went 4-0 with three pins and a tech fall at the national duals event. She is 16-3 on the season with nine pins and five techs.
 
Stem is 16-2 on the season with 13 tech falls and she's won 14 straight matches.
 
Freshman Emma Heslin and Shufeldt provide a dynamic 1-2 punch on the front end of the lineup for Lock Haven. Heslin has 17 wins at 101. Both Lily Sherer (130) and Jessica Johnson (170) both have 14 wins on the season.

Following Sunday's (Jan. 21) home dual with York, the Bald Eagles will return to action on Sunday, Jan. 28 at the Pennsylvania Women's Collegiate State Championships, which will be hosted by East Stroudsburg University.
