MBB: Bald Eagles’ long-range shooting powers victory over Shepherd

The Bald Eagles took down Shepherd for their sixth straight win behind a season-high 13 threes.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven men's basketball team made a season-high 13 shots from behind the arch on its way to a convincing 84-72 victory over visiting Shepherd in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division battle inside an electric Thomas Fieldhouse on Saturday (Jan. 20) afternoon.

With the victory, the Bald Eagles improve to 10-5 overall and 8-2 in the PSAC, remaining in a tie for the top spot in the Eastern Division.

The Bald Eagles, who have not lost in the new year, improve to 5-1 in front of the home crowd. Lock Haven's six-game winning streak dates back to Dec. 19.

With the loss, Shepherd falls to 6-10 overall with a 3-7 mark in conference play.

Lock Haven knocked down a season-high 13-of-23 shots from behind the arch, including eight trifectas in the first half.

The Haven received a huge boost from the second unit, which outscored Shepherd's 35-5 in bench points.

Dyllon Scott (Dacula, Ga./Penfield) and Bryson Scott (Dacula, Ga./Penfield) led the charge and didn't miss from deep, including a game-high 4-of-4 effort from D. Scott. D. Scott finished with 14 points, while B. Scott was a force off the bench, finishing with his first double-double with career-highs in points (12) and rebounds (10).

Justice Shoats (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Holy Redeemer) ran a beautiful offense as he dished out a game-high six assists, often setting up the Bald Eagles from behind the arch. After setting his teammates up for most of the afternoon, Shoats took over late and finished with a game-high 20 points.

Dyson Harward (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) added to the three-point parade as he went a perfect 3-of-3 from deep and finished with 12 points.

Isaiah Stewart (Madison, Wisc./Madison La Follette) also knocked down three trifectas as he finished with 11 points and four assists.

Collin Jones (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) provided a spark off the bench on the defensive end as he finished with three steals, two blocks to go with nine points.

The Bald Eagles shot an efficient 55 percent (29-of-53) from the floor, while holding Shepherd to under 50 percent (27-of-58).

Lock Haven outscored the Rams in each half, but it was Shepherds game-high 19 second-half points that allowed them to stay in the game.

However, Lock Haven seemed to halt each Shepherd run by knocking down a shot from 3-point land, where the Rams made just 18 percent of its shots (6-of-23).

Saturday was also the program's Alumni Appreciation Day celebration.
