Men’s Wrestling set for home opener; Bald Eagles host Bloomsburg Thursday night

The Lock Haven men’s wrestling team is set to host longtime rival Bloomsburg in the Bald Eagles 2024-25 home opener on Thursday, Nov. 14.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Lock Haven men's wrestling team is set for its 2024-25 home opener on Thursday, Nov. 14. The Bald Eagles will play host to Bloomsburg at 7 p.m. in what will also serve as The Haven's first Mid-American Conference (MAC) match of the season.  

Setting the Stage:
Lock Haven will open MAC action on Thursday, Nov. 14, at 7 p.m. vs. Bloomsburg. It marks the Bald Eagles' first home dual of the 2024-25 season and the first of six.

This will mark The Haven's first dual of the season. The Bald Eagles are coming off an impressive showing at the Princeton Open on Nov. 3. Returning national qualifier Wyatt Henson led the way as the nationally-ranked Bald Eagle went a perfect 4-0 on the way to the 141-pound title.
 
Henson was one of nine total place winners for Lock Haven. Anthony Noto, Lucas Kapusta, Nick Stampoulos, Colin Fegley, and Tucker Hogan earned second-place finishers for The Haven.

Sean Logue and Tyler Stoltzfus are coming off impressive showings at the Journeymen Collegiate Classic (Nov. 10). Each Bald Eagle was undefeated on the day in their respective bracket/pool. Colin Fegley finished first with a 2-1 record.

Bloomsburg enters Thursday's MAC East dual with a record of 0-3 and a 0-1 record in conference after a 42-0 loss to George Mason.

National Rankings:
Returning All-American Anthony Noto is ranked No. 17 at 133 by InterMat. Noto is 3-1 on the year. Wyatt Henson is ranked No. 25 by InterMat at 141. Henson is a perfect 4-0 on the year with two tech falls. 

Nick Stampoulos and Colin Fegley are ranked No. 30 and No. 33 at 157 and 184 by The College Wrestling Report, respectively. Stampoulos is 4-1 on the year and finished second at the Princeton Open. Fegley is 5-2 and finished first at the Journeymen Collegiate Classic which included a 12-1 major decision victory over No. 29 Nathan Haas of California Baptist.

MAC Preseason Poll:
On Wednesday, Oct. 30, the Mid-American Conference (MAC) released the preseason rankings. As a team, Lock Haven was tabbed to finish second. In all, nine of Lock Haven's projected starters are ranked in the top 10 with seven ranked in the top five and four in the top three of their weight class.
 
Noto, Henson, and Stonecheck are ranked No. 1 at 133, 141, and 149 respectively. James Lledo is ranked No. 3 at 184.
 
Caden Dobbins checks in at No. 4 at 165. Stampoulos and Stoltzfus check in at No. 5 at 157 and 174 respectively.
 
In the team rankings, Central Michigan edged out Lock Haven as the preseason favorite. George Mason was tabbed third while No. 4 Ohio and No. 5 SIU Edwardsville round out the top five.

Up Next:
The Bald Eagles will travel to Philadelphia on Sunday, Nov. 24 for the PRTC Keystone Classic with action to start at 9:30 a.m.

Looking Ahead:
Following the PRTC Keystone Classic, Lock Haven will host their annual Mat-Town Open Tournament on Sunday, Dec. 1 at 9:30 a.m.

The Haven will have a busy stretch ahead with two Big Ten opponents as they travel to No. 18 Rutgers on Friday, Dec. 6 before hosting Wisconsin on Sunday, Dec. 8.

On Dec. 21, the Bald Eagles will travel to Nashville, Tennessee for the Journeymen Collegiate Classic where they will face No. 9 Iowa State, No. 6 Ohio State, and No. 23 North Carolina.
