No. 19 Women’s Basketball starts strong, rolls to big win over ESU

Behind a dominant effort in the first half, No. 19 Bald Eagles soar by East Stroudsburg and remain unbeaten at home.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The No. 19 Lock Haven women's basketball team got off to a quick start and never looked back as the Bald Eagles rolled to a big 74-46 win over East Stroudsburg University (7-15, 5-12 PSAC) tonight at home in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action.
 
With the win, the Bald Eagles moved to a perfect 11-0 at home on the season. Overall, Lock Haven improved to 21-2 and moved to a remarkable 16-1 in PSAC play.
 
The 21 wins are the most in 34 years, dating back to a 26-win season in 1989-90.
 
Yesterday (Tuesday, Jan. 23), the PSAC first-place and playoff bound Bald Eagles moved up in the D2CSC National Rankings from No. 22 in the country to No. 19.
 
With its 114th block of the season, the Bald Eagles set a new program-record for blocks in a single-season.
 
Lock Haven was led by Rhlyn Rouse (York, Pa./York Tech) as the rookie turned in a career-night. She netted a career-high 22 points and added seven rebounds.
 
Rouse's sensational scoring touch fueled a balanced scoring approach that saw Lock Haven also benefit from 46 total points off the bench.
 
The Bald Eagle defense forced 21 ESU turnovers and Lock Haven held a lopsided 44-26 advantage in rebounds. The Haven scored 22 points off turnovers.
 
Jenadia Jordan (York, Pa./Linden Hall) added nine points, Alana Robinson (Rockaway, N.J./Pope John Paul II) scored eight and Jackie Fetsko (Marion Center, Pa./Marion Center) chipped in with seven points. Carly Fitzmorris (Hamburg, N.J./Pope John XXIII) knocked down a pair of 3's.
 
Fetsko grabbed eight rebounds and Madeline Evans (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) added seven boards to go along with five points.
 
Robinson added five boards, five assists, three steals and two blocks.
 
Lock Haven busted out to a 19-11 lead after the first quarter and the Bald Eagles outscored East Stroudsburg 20-4 in the second quarter on the way to a 39-15 lead at halftime.
 
Up Next for Lock Haven:
The Bald Eagles will travel to Shepherd University on Saturday, Feb. 17 for a 1 p.m. PSAC Eastern Division game.
