Baseball falls to Jefferson to wrap up weekend in North Carolina

The Bald Eagles concluded its trip to North Carolina on Sunday with a non-conference battle against Jefferson.

WILSON, N.C. – The Lock Haven baseball team fell to Jefferson, 11-5, in its final game in North Carolina this weekend on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 25.
 
The Bald Eagles are now 3-3 through two weekends and Jefferson improves to 3-1 overall.
 
Jefferson set the tone in the bottom of the first inning with four runs to take an early lead.
 
Lock Haven cut the deficit to one in the top of the fourth with three runs, before Jefferson plated one run in the bottom half to lead 5-3.
 
Jaxson Pupo (Lewistown, Pa./Mifflin County) blasted a three-run homer to put the Bald Eagles on the scoreboard.
 
The Bald Eagles took their first lead of the afternoon in the top of the fifth with two runs, but Jefferson responded with five runs over the next two innings to start to pull away.
 
Greg Cristino (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) and Stephen McMillan (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks) drove in runs during the rally.
 
Jefferson added a run in the eighth and shutout Lock Haven the rest of the way to seal the victory.
 
Jefferson finished with eight hits in the game, while the Bald Eagles totaled seven with no errors in the field.
 
Pupo's homer and McEllroy's double led the Bald Eagles offense on the afternoon.
 
Rylan Bailey (Lewistown, Pa./Mifflin County) got the start on the bump for the Bald Eagles and finished with five strikeouts and five earned runs in 3 and 1/3 inning of work. Tyler Bauder (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore) struck out four in relief.

The Bald Eagles travel to Charleston, W.V. on Saturday, March 2 to kick off a four-game non-conference series with Charleston University.
