LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The nationally-ranked Lock Haven women's wrestling team will close the 2023-24 regular season on Sunday, Feb. 11 with a dual at Ursinus College. The match is set for a 2 p.m. start.
Lock Haven is 9-4 overall and looking to extend its win streak to three. The Bald Eagles last dual was a 44-5 victory over York at home on Jan. 21.
Ursinus is 7-3 on the season.
The Haven was scheduled to host nationally-ranked Gannon last week, but the match was canceled so the Bald Eagles will return to action for the first time since an impressive showing at the 2024 Pennsylvania Women's Collegiate Wrestling State Championships, held Jan. 28 at East Stroudsburg.
Kaelani Shufeldt,
Madison Matta,
Stella Steigler and
Lindsay Laws all won individual titles for the Bald Eagles.
The National Wrestling Coaches' Association (NWCA) announced the updated NCAA Coaches Rankings today (Thursday, Feb. 8) and the Bald Eagles jumped from No. 10 to No. 8 in the team rankings.
A total of three Bald Eagles earned individual national rankings including Shufeldt, who is ranked fifth at 109.
Grace Stem found herself ranked fifth at 143 pounds and Steigler, who recently returned to the lineup, checked in at No. 10 at 170.
Shufeldt sports an impressive 19-3 record with 12 pins on the season. She was a perfect 7-0 in January. Shufeldt dominated opponents as six of her seven January wins came by way of pin and the seventh was a tech fall.
Stem is 16-2 with 13 tech falls and is riding a 14-match win streak dating back to the opening weekend of the season.
Steigler, a freshman, is undefeated on the season (7-0).
Heading into the final competition of the regular season, freshman
Emma Heslin and Shufeldt will look to continue to provide a dynamic 1-2 punch on the front end of the lineup for Lock Haven. Heslin has 20 wins on the season at 101.
Both
Lily Sherer (130) and
Madison Matta (136) provide veteran leadership and experience in the lineup, and the two have 17 and 13 wins on the season, respectively.
Steigler (170) returned to the lineup at the Pennsylvania State Collegiate Championships and looked impressive once again as she improved to a perfect 7-0 on the season.
