Baseball kicks off PSAC East play by hosting #24 ESU, drops home twinbill

The Bald Eagles hosted their first PSAC East doubleheader of the season by hosting nationally-ranked ESU on Friday.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven baseball team hosted No. 24 East Stroudsburg University in its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division home opener, 13-0, 8-2, on a sunny Friday (March 8) afternoon.

Lock Haven moves to 3-9 overall and 0-2 in the PSAC East, while ESU moves to 8-3 overall and 2-0 in Eastern Division play.

Game One: #24 ESU 13, Lock Haven 0
ESU took game one, 13-0, behind an eight-run second inning.

The Warriors were powered by their offense, which led 12-1 in hits on the afternoon.

Stephen McMillan (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks) recorded the hit for The Haven.

Game Two: #24 ESU 8, Lock Haven 2
The Bald Eagles started the scoring in the bottom of the first inning when Zachary McEllroy (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) drove in Gavin Neal (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra) to put The Haven on top, 1-0.

Lock Haven received four-scoreless innings from game two starter Matt Lingenfelter (State College, Pa./State College) to cling to the 1-0 advantage.

However, the Warriors rallied for eight runs in the top of the fifth to take their first lead, 8-1.

Those were the last runs of the contest for the Warriors and Lock Haven tacked on one in the sixth, but couldn't rally further and ESU won game two, 8-2.

Francisco Taveras (Muhlenburg, Pa./Muhlenburg) doubled, drove in a run and scored to lead the offense. McEllroy finished with two hits and an RBI.
