LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven baseball team (11-34, 8-24 PSAC East) hosted Shepherd University (21-25, 14-18 PSAC East) at Watkins Field in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division doubleheader on Friday afternoon (May 3) on Senior Day. The Bald Eagles dropped the doubleheader, 3-1 and 7-1.
Prior to the doubleheader, the program honored seniors
Jared Colledge (Everret, Pa./Everett Area),
Kevin Worek (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Abington),
Francisco Taveras (Muhlenberg, Pa./Muhlenberg),
Nate Farrell (Dubios, Pa/Dubois) and
Nick White (Halethorpe, Md./Lansdowne) for their dedication and contributions to the University and Lock Haven baseball.
Game 1 Recap: Shepherd 3, Lock Haven 1
In game one, Shepherd opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the first inning, before adding a run in a second.
Lock Haven cut the deficit to 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth when
Lance Baldensperger (Warren, Pa./Warren) drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, after the Bald Eagles loaded the bases.
However, that was the final run for Lock Haven as Shepherd closed out the victory.
Despite the loss, Worek pitched his heart out in his final start as a Bald Eagle. The senior went all seven innings, threw well over 120 pitches and struck out six hitters, including the last batter he faced in his career.
The Bald Eagles' offense finished with four hits, led by a double by White and an RBI by Baldensberger.
Game 2 Recap: Shepherd 7, Lock Haven 1
In game two, Shepherd again broke through first by scoring a solo run in the top of the second. Lock Haven loaded the bases in the bottom half, but couldn't bring the tying run in.
Shepherd extended its lead by scoring five runs in the top of the third, but Lock Haven got on the board following an RBI-single by
Greg Cristino (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) to make it 6-1.
Shepherd added another run before closing out the victory to secure the sweep.
Seniors Farrell and Colledge took the mound for the final time for Lock Haven.
Traveras, White and
Jaxson Pupo (Lewistown, Pa./Mifflin County) led the Lock Haven offense with two hits each. White doubled and Baldensberger added a triple.
