Lacrosse falls in PSAC Tournament Quarterfinal at Slippery Rock

The No. 3 seeded Bald Eagles traveled to second-seeded Slippery Rock for the PSAC Championship Tournament quarterfinal on Tuesday afternoon.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Lock Haven lacrosse team fell to Slippery Rock University, 15-6, in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship Tournament quarterfinal, on the road on Tuesday (May 7).
 
Lock Haven concludes the 2024 season with a 14-4 record after reaching the PSAC Tournament for the first time since 2018. The Haven secured its first 14-win season since 2016.
 
Slippery Rock improves to 15-3 overall, while earning a trip to the PSAC Tournament semifinal.
 
Lock Haven forced a game-high 19 turnovers, but Slippery Rock held a 20-5 advantage in draw controls. The Rock also led 30-20 in shots.
 
In the first period, The Rock jumped out to a 4-1 lead, with Lock Haven's goal coming in the ninth minute from Gabby Gunnip (Elbridge, N.Y./Jordan Elbridge).
 
Josey Shaffer (Westminster, Md./Manchester Valley) and Abby Katrinak (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville) found the back of the net in the second period, but The Rock outscored Lock Haven, 6-2, to extend its lead heading into the break.
 
The Bald Eagles outscored The Rock (3-2) in the final period, but the deficit proved to be too much.
 
Katrinak added her second goal, while Abby Hampson (Adamstown, Md./Tuscarora) and Makayla Kelly (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) also scored in the final 15 minutes.
 
In net, Dana Mirigliano (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) held strong under constant pressure from the Slippery Rock offense and finished with a game-high 13 saves.
 
Katrinak finished with a team-high three points, Nadia Baskot (Damascus, Md./Damascus) dished out two assists, while Brynlee Pinschenat (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) and Kaitlyn Collins (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) each added a helper.
 
Mackenna Brown (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas Institute) led the defense with four caused turnovers and three ground balls. Shaffer pulled in a team-high three draw controls.

The PSAC is set to announce the Eastern and Western Division All-Conference Teams tomorrow afternoon (Wednesday, May 8).
