Women’s Basketball wins defensive battle vs. Shippensburg

The Bald Eagles won their third straight game by taking down Shippensburg in a defensive battle at home on Wednesday

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven women's basketball team extended its winning streak to three by taking down Shippensburg, 64-56, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division battle on Wednesday night (Jan. 22) inside Thomas Fieldhouse.
 
With the victory, The Haven improves to 12-5 overall and 7-4 in the PSAC. Shippensburg falls to 7-11 on the season and 4-8 in conference play.
 
The Bald Eagles are now 6-3 in front of the home crowd and have won three straight games against the Raiders.
 
Jenadia Jordan led the Bald Eagles in scoring with 18 points, while adding seven rebounds.
 
Alana Robinson was a menace on defense and finished with a game-high six blocks and four steals, while adding 11 points, four assists and six rebounds. Robinson, who is the program's all-time blocks leader, fell one shy of her single-game, career-high of seven.
 
Kiera Baughman rounded out the Bald Eagles in double figures and finished with 16 points, four assists and a team-high three 3-pointers made.
 
Rhlyn Rouse and Madeline Evans led Lock Haven in rebounds, finishing with 10 and nine, respectively.
 
In the first quarter, both teams shot 40 percent from the floor, but Lock Haven held a 7-4 advantage at the foul line and knocked down the only trifecta of the period to build an early 20-16 advantage.
 
In the second quarter, Shippensburg edged The Haven 13-11 in a defensive battle, where neither school shot over 35 percent from the field, and the Bald Eagles carried a 31-29 advantage heading into the break.
 
To open the second half, Shippensburg cut its deficit to 35-33 with six minutes to go, but Lock Haven outscored the Raiders 10-5 to close out the quarter and the Bald Eagles led 45-38 heading into the final period.
 
In closing time, Lock Haven built an 11-point lead (55-44) through the opening five minutes, but Ship cut its deficit to 59-54 coming out of the final media timeout.
 
However, that is as close as the Raiders could get and Lock Haven closed out the victory.
 
Taja Colbert led the Raiders with 19 points.
 
Next up for The Haven:
The Bald Eagles remain home and will host PSAC Eastern Division foe Millersville on Saturday (Jan. 25) at 1 p.m. inside Thomas Fieldhouse.
