Women’s Wrestling set to host tri-match on Senior Day (Sunday, Feb. 2)

The Bald Eagles are set to host their first home match of the season on Sunday afternoon for Senior Day

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The nationally-ranked Lock Haven women's wrestling team will host Ursinus and Gannon in a tri-meet on Sunday (Feb. 2) inside Thomas Fieldhouse.
 
Sunday is also Senior Day for the program and the Bald Eagles will honor seniors Lily Sherer and Jessica Johnson.
 
The Bald Eagles enter the weekend with an 8-8 dual record, including wins over nationally ranked victories over Elmira, Wisconsin-Stevens point and Utica.

National Girls and Women in Sports Day
The Lock Haven Department of Athletics will hold its 2025 National Girls and Women in Sport Day (NGWSD) celebration on Sunday, Feb. 2 starting at 2 p.m.
 
Event Schedule
Registration – 1:30 p.m.
Mini-sport clinics – 2 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Pizza Party & Lock Haven Women's Wrestling Match – 3:30 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Pick Up at Thomas Fieldhouse  – 4-4:30 p.m.

MAT-TOWN USA: NCAA adds women's wrestling as 91st championship
 
On Friday, Jan. 17, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) added women's wrestling as its 91st championship sport.
 
Divisions I, II and III approved the addition at the Association's annual Convention this week in Nashville, Tennessee.
 
The NCAA's first women's wrestling championship will be in 2026.

National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) National Rankings
 
In the latest NWCA National Rankings, the Bald Eagles came in tied for 14th in the country.
 
Individually, freshman standout Alyssa Favara is ranked No. 3 in the nation this week at 207#. Favara remains a perfect 18-0 on the season and 9-0 in duals. The freshman has five pins, and six tech falls.
 
Next up for The Haven:
The Bald Eagles hit the road and will travel to York, Pennsylvania for three matches to conclude the 2024-25 regular season. The Haven will compete against York, Cedar Crest and Delaware Valley.
 
Lock Haven will kick off postseason action on Sunday (Feb. 3) and will compete in the National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Region 2 Championship hosted by East Stroudsburg University.
