Lacrosse improves to 2-0, downs Ashland at home

The Bald Eagles soared to a 13-9 victory at home over visiting Ashland on Wednesday afternoon

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Wednesday, Feb. 26) – Emma Williams scored five goals and the Lock Haven lacrosse team improved to 2-0 after taking down Ashland 13-9 at Charlotte Smith Field in a non-conference game.
 
Lock Haven moves to 2-0 overall to start the season after winning back-to-back games at home. The Bald Eagles soared past Daemen, 17-7, in their home opener on Sunday. Ashland falls to 1-1 on the season.
 
Lock Haven flew out to an early 5-2 lead after the opening 15 minutes behind three first-quarter goals from Williams.
 
The Bald Eagles outscored Ashland in every period but the fourth en route to victory.
 
Williams added an assist to her impressive day for a total of a game-high six points. Williams also scooped up four ground balls.
 
Earlier today, Gabby Gunnip was named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Athlete of the Week after scoring five goals in the Bald Eagles opener. Fast forward to this afternoon and Gunnip turned into the team's leading facilitator, as the junior dished out a game-high five assists, while adding a goal.
 
Makayla Kelly scored three goals and added an assist for a total of four points.
 
Madley Munn, Kaitlyn Collins, Nadia Baskot and Jordan Ellis also scored.
 
Collins led the defense with five caused turnovers and five ground balls. Sarah Osmun added three caused turnovers.
 
Lock Haven keeper Gretchen King improved to 2-0 in net and finished with a game-high 17 saves.
 
Next up for The Haven:
The Bald Eagles are in the midst of a four-game home stand to start the 2025 season and will return to Charlotte Smith Field on Saturday (March 1) at noon to host No. 8 East Stroudsburg.
