KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Junior
Alana Robinson scored her 1000
th-career point in the Lock Haven women's basketball team's nail-biting contest at Kutztown on Wednesday night (Feb. 5). Kutztown edged out the Bald Eagles 70-69 in the closing seconds of a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) thriller.
Robinson became the 16
th player in program history to reach the 1000-point milestone, doing so in under three-complete seasons. The junior is already the program's all-time blocks leader and continues to cement her name in the Bald Eagles' record book.
Robinson, who is the back-to-back PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week, added a team-high five assists and six rebounds.
The Bald Eagles move to 14-7 overall and 9-6 in the PSAC and are tied with Kutztown (14-10, 9-6 PSAC) for first place in the Eastern Division.
In the fourth quarter, Lock Haven built a 56-52 lead with seven minutes remaining, but KU responded with a 13-6 run to go up six with one-minute left in regulation.
With Kutztown clinging to a 65-60 lead with 37 seconds to go, Robinson knocked down a mid-range jumper to cut the Bald Eagles' deficit to 65-62.
Three straight Kutztown free throws extended the KU lead to 68-62, but a
Kiera Baughman 30-footer at the other end cut the Bald Eagles' deficit back to three with 15 seconds to go.
The Golden Bears went 1-of-2 at the free throw line and Baughman drilled another three to make it 69-68 with 10 seconds on the clock.
KU again went 1-of-2 at the line, setting up one last chance for the Bald Eagles, who trailed by two (70-68).
The Bald Eagles drew a foul at the other end with .5 seconds on the clock, but a 1-of-2 trip to the line sealed the Kutztown victory.
For Lock Haven, Baughman finished with a team-high 20 points, including seven points during the final 17 seconds to give the Bald Eagles a chance at the comeback. The transfer added five rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Madeline Evans notched a 14-point, 11-rebound double-double, her ninth of the season.
Rhyln Rouse added eight points off the bench and
Jenadia Jordan chipped in four assists.
In the first quarter, Kutztown jumped out to an early 9-2 lead, but The Haven shot over 60 percent (9-of-15) from the field to flip the script and build a 19-17 lead after 12 minutes.
However, KU knocked down a pair of trifectas and forced four Lock Haven turnovers to take the second quarter, 18-14, and carry a 35-33 advantage into the break.
In the third period, Robinson scored her 12
th point of the game to secure the 1000-point milestone and the Bald Eagles outscored KU, 17-15, to knot the score at 50-50 heading into the final quarter.
