Men’s Soccer battles Shippensburg to scoreless draw on the road

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Lock Haven men's soccer team controlled much of the second half and held a 14-8 advantage in shots, but the Bald Eagles secured a scoreless draw with Shippensburg on Saturday afternoon on the road.

With the result, Lock Haven moved to 2-3-6 overall play, while Shippensburg moved to 2-4-4 overall.

After Shippensburg held a 6-4 edge in shots during the opening 45 minutes, the Bald Eagles turned up the pressure after halftime and outshot the Raiders 10-2 in the second half. Lock Haven finished the match with a 14-8 advantage in total shots and a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.

The Haven nearly broke the deadlock during a dangerous stretch early in the second half.

Patricio Zapata struck the left post in the 50th minute, and moments later Noah Brady and Billy Lawrence put shots on target that were turned away by Shippensburg goalkeeper.

Zapata forced another save in the 54th minute as Lock Haven continued to apply pressure.

Zapata led the Bald Eagles with four shots, while Nicholas McGhin added three and Brady finished with two. Lawrence, Brady, McGhin and Zapata each recorded a shot on goal.

Lock Haven goalkeeper Ethan Beck turned in a clean sheet, stopping both shots he faced over the full 90 minutes. The Bald Eagle defense limited Shippensburg to just two shots after halftime and did not allow a corner kick in the second half.

The Bald Eagles continued to search for the winner late, with McGhin forcing a save in the 80th minute before Adam Isardat and Evan Jennings produced attempts in the final two minutes, but neither side could find the breakthrough before the final whistle.
