LOCK HAVEN, PA – Behind a 25 assist, 10 dig double-double from
Natalie Gibson, the Lock Haven (18-6, 10-2 PSAC) women's volleyball team swept visiting Bloomsburg (11-13, 2-10 PSAC) in straight sets on Saturday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) clash in Thomas Fieldhouse.
Gibson's 25 assists pushed her past 800 assists on the season, and she now has 812.
The first set was a tight one that pushed the Bald Eagles to the limit before a late-set rally put The Haven in front. The Huskies led 19-12 after a three-point run but Lock Haven answered in a big way with a 12-4 push to tie it at 23 as
Reagan Irons served five straight points.
Both teams traded points late in the set before kills from
Maddie Mitchell and
Gabby Gealey closed the set at a 26-24 tally for a 1-0 Lock Haven lead.
Set two saw the Huskies lead again at the midway point before Mitchell went to the service line and Lock Haven ran off 11 straight points to take a 22-14 advantage. Mitchell had four aces in the match, a career high, and three of them came in that run. The Bald Eagles hit .241 in the set and closed it out with an ace from
Demi Ross to take a 2-0 match lead.
Bloomsburg led again in the third and pushed it to 13-11, but Lock Haven tied it at 13 on Irons' serve and never trailed again after going up 15-14. The Bald Eagles closed on a 10-5 stretch, with
Gracelynn Wolzen and Gibson adding kills late. A Bloomsburg service error ended the match handing The Haven a 3-0 straight sets victory.
Payton Stanton and
Avery Smith led Lock Haven with nine kills apiece, both hitting .467. Stanton also had three blocks. Mitchell added eight kills, 10 digs and four aces, while
