LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – In a matchup of two of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference's (PSAC) premier men's soccer programs, Lock Haven made a late match push but couldn't find the equalizer as the Bald Eagles fell in the PSAC Quarterfinal round to East Stroudsburg by a 1-0 score on Sunday at Hubert Jack Stadium.
In a match that was Lock Haven's first home conference tournament game in 15 years, the fans were treated to a classic battle between the longtime rivals.
The first half passed without a score. Lock Haven's best chance came in the 16th minute, when
Nicholas McGhin sent a shot from the top right that East Stroudsburg goalkeeper Phil Sykes saved.
East Stroudsburg pushed early in the second half. Steven Arias sent a shot out over the top five seconds after the restart, and Beck stopped Owen Rennie's low attempt in the 56th minute but the Warriors found the back of the net on their next shot. Jeter Cardona scored in the 58th minute to put the Warriors ahead by a 1-0 score.
Beck made two saves, both in the second half, and his work kept a chippy affair within one goal. Lock Haven kept probing late, with
Billy Lawrence,
Patricio Zapata and
Adam Isardat all getting shots away after the East Stroudsburg goal. Zapata's attempts in the 74th and 84th minutes and Isardat's final shot at 89:58 couldn't find the back of the net for the equalizer as the Bald Eagles saw their 10-match unbeaten streak come to a close in a 1-0 defeat.
Lock Haven finishes the season with a 6-4-9 overall record.
