No. 6E Men’s Basketball takes No. 3E Shepherd to the wire, upset bid falls short

The Bald Eagles traveled to Shepherd on Monday night for the opening round of the PSAC Tournament

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - The No. 6E Lock Haven men's basketball team went on the road for the opening round of the 2025-26 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament on Monday and gave No. 3E Shepherd all it could handle, but the Rams narrowly escaped with an 84-80 victory.

The Haven trimmed a 21-point second half deficit to three in the closing seconds, but Shepherd's early advantage proved too much as the Rams escaped to move on in the tournament.

The Bald Eagles finished the regular season at 10-18 overall and 6-15 in the PSAC, earning its seventh straight trip to the PSAC Championship Tournament.

With the victory, Shepherd (20-9, 15-6 PSAC) will advance to the quarterfinal round on Wednesday.

In the first half, Lock Haven held a slight 17-16 advantage through the opening eight minutes behind nine points from Dyllon Scott (3-of-3 3PT), but Shepherd outscored The Haven 29-15 the rest of the way to head into the break leading 45-30.

Shepherd knocked down three trifectas during the run, while limiting the Bald Eagles to 7-of-21 from the floor over the final 12 minutes of the half.

Keith Warren led all scorers at the break with 13 points.

Shepherd extended its lead to 21 (51-30) to open the second half, but Lock Haven hit nine 3-pointers over a 15-minute span to cut its deficit to seven (79-73) with 3:21 to go.

Warren (15), Luke Kennevan (10) and Scott (8) carried the scoring load during the Lock Haven run by hitting multiple shots from behind the arch.

The Haven went 9-of-15 from deep to start out the half, while Scott pushed his 3-point make total to five.

Dean Coleman-Newsome drilled Lock Haven's 10th three of the half and a Shepherd turnover led to a Blake Deegan layup to trim the deficit to 80-82 with 20 seconds to go.

However, Shepherd went 1-of-2 at the line before getting a stop at the other end as the clock expired to escape with the victory.

Warren led all scorers with 28 points on 12-of-20 from the floor, while also knocking down four trifectas and plucking four steals. With his efforts, Warren eclipsed 1000-career points in his collegiate career.

Scott added 17 points on a game-high five three pointers, while adding five rebounds.

Deegan finished with nine points and a team-high nine rebounds, while Kennevan and Coleman-Newsome rounded out the Bald Eagles in double figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
